Suzanne Lalonde

Full Professor, International Maritime Law

“Thanks to technological advances, the oceans represent a major reserve of resources, which in return makes them the object of great desire liable to disrupt international relations. This reality is particularly striking in the Arctic region (my area of expertise), which is presently in turmoil due to climate change. The ability of international law to resolve the challenges posed by maritime nationalism, as well as by the need to protect maritime environments, is a fascinating subject.”
