Coop Droit
Founded in July 1985, the co-operative for students in the Faculty of Law at the Université de Montréal provides members with all the books and legal resources they need at the best possible price.
Since its modest beginnings, the Coop Droit was recognized by the Quebec Ministry of Culture and Communications as an authorized bookseller specializing in law in 1992. Three years later, it also joined the ranks of the Fédération québécoise des coopératives en milieu scolaire. This alliance provides many advantages, most notably, the ability to offer members even more savings.
Today, the Coop Droit has expanded beyond the Faculty to serve numerous firms and studies across Quebec. Furthermore, the online shop gives members the option of ordering books and accessing other perks, and permits anyone anywhere to buy from the Co-op.
More than 10 Faculty students staff the bookshop and another 10 or so students work in the Coop Droit’s café. The Co-op is also financially involved in the Association of Law Students and the Corporation of Graduating Law Students, and enables students to sit on the Co-op’s board of directors as an administrator. The board comprises 15 members, the majority of which are students who were elected during the annual general meeting.
In 2013, during the 12th annual Coopsco gala (network that brings together more than 60 student co-ops from across Quebec), our Coop Droit won the prize for “Best co-operative engagement”, as well as the prize for “Best management practices”.
