Jean Doré (1944-2015)
Mayor of Montreal (1986-1994)
Great democrat Jean Doré was mayor of the Quebec metropolis from 1986 to 1994. He led Montreal into the 21st century by dusting off the municipal administration. He created the Office de consultation publique de Montréal, adopted the city’s first master plan, and instituted the question period at City Hall. Under his leadership, Montreal opened the doors of the City Hall to the public, and the administration acquired its first computers. Mayor Doré also approved the development of a beach on the south side of St. Helen’s Island.
