Jules Deschênes (1923-2000)
Chief Justice of the Superior Court of Quebec (1973-1983)
Jules Deschênes chaired the Commission of Inquiry on War Criminals in Canada (1983-1986) and sat on the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (1993-1997). He became renowned for his role as prosecutor in the public enquiry established by the Government of Quebec in January 1964 to shed light on the Coffin Affair, which led to the hanging of Wilbert Coffin in 1956.
