Pierre Eugène Lafontaine (1857-1935)
Chief Justice of Quebec (1922-1932)
From 1888 to 1930, Pierre Eugène Lafontaine was a professor of civil and roman law at the Université Laval in Montreal. He acted as Secretary of the Faculty of Law from 1890 to 1914, before being nominated as Dean from 1920 to 1930. On August 31, 1906, Me Lafontaine was appointed at the Superior Court of Quebec, district of Montreal. From 1919 to 1928, he chaired the Commission des écoles catholiques de Montréal. He was appointed Chief Justice of Quebec on December 22, 1922, and retired from the bench in 1932.
