During the course of their studies, several of our students spend at least one term studying at another law faculty in Canada or abroad. The Faculty has long encouraged our students to dive into this experience that goes beyond the strict educational framework and submerge themselves into a different cultural reality.
While students are free to frequent any of the 550 universities with which Université de Montréal has a cooperation agreement – including institutions in Europe, the Middle East, the Americas, Africa, Oceania or Asia – the majority of students who opt for an exchange program choose one of the thirty-five partner faculties of the Faculty of Law.
Thus, students may opt for Paris or Lyon (France), or elect to go to Namur (Belgium).  Several other destinations are also offered: Geneva and Neuchâtel (Switzerland), Naples (Italy), Cork (Ireland). Beyond Europe, students may also choose to go to Asia (China or Japan), Oceania (Australia) or Latin America (Argentinia, Brazil or Peru).
Students wishing to acquaint themselves with the principles of the private law as these apply in Canadian common law can choose to go to Osgoode Hall (York University, Toronto).
These exchange programs are offered to students at all degree levels.

Exchange Programs at the Master's Level

The Faculty has also recently established an exchange program with the Faculty of Law and Political Science at Université Lumière Lyon II for Master’s degree students. French students enrolled for the Master 2 Professionnel, with specialization in Comparative Business Law, can complete one term of the course at Lyon and the other at Université de Montréal. The program also envisages an internship of two months. On the Quebec side, students enrolled for the Master’s degree in Business Law can spend one term at Université Lyon II.
