Full Professor
Criminal law
A distinguished professor in criminal law and an expert in cases of insanity, Professor Hugues Parent is also the author of three major works about criminal law that inspired the Supreme Court of Canada. The first, “L’imputabilité”, addresses the guidelines for criminal responsibility in Canada. The second, “La culpabilité”, is devoted to interpreting the laws governing criminal responsibility (mens rea) and the third, looks at the process of determining sentences in Canada and, more particularly, in Quebec.
Popular with students, he frequently acts as a research director for graduate law students. Professor Parent is also a member of the scientific editorial committee for Revue juridique Thémis de l’Université de Montréal.
